The National Human Genome Research Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, has launched a Policy and Legislation Database. The free, searchable database focuses on genetic testing and counseling, insurance and employment discrimination, newborn screening, privacy and confidentiality of genetic information, informed consent and commercialization and patenting. The site includes an interactive map of the United States that enables users to click on any state to view its legislation and laws. Users also can search the database by keyword, content type, topic and source. The database contains links to full-text copies of federal and state laws and statutes; federal legislative materials; and federal administrative and executive materials, including regulations, institutional policies and executive orders. Abstracts are also provided.
