How to succeed at blogging

I caught this sentence in a posting to Poynter’s online-news discussion list. I like it because it states so simply the formula for blogging success. The posting was by Howard Owens, director of new media at the Ventura County Star.

“There are two lessons I take away from blogs. First, find your niche and serve it and serve it well. Second, frequent updates.”

I’ve created a similar post on our company blog. I’ve had a lot of experience with attorneys (worked for a law firm for 5 years) and also worked at one of the nations premiere attorney marketing firms and find the biggest pitfall is consistency. Bloggers start out passionate, but burnout.
