This 1911 photograph of the first all-woman jury is from an amazing collection of some 3,000 copyright-free photos posted by the Library of Congress to photo-sharing site Flickr. With these photos, the LOC and Flickr are joining forces to launch a new initiative, The Commons, to enhance understanding of these photos through public tagging and commenting. Here is the LOC announcement, here is the LOC’s Flickr page, and here is Flickr’s announcement.

The photo shows the first all-woman jury in a criminal trial. Wyoming empaneled the first all-woman jury in a civil trial in 1870.
