If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then behold the Massachusetts lawyer. Coming later this year to a calendar store near you, the first-ever Beautiful Lawyers calendar will feature 12 months of Massachusetts lawyers and judges, “decked out in glamorous attire and stunningly photographed in their ‘natural element.'”

No, it is not April 1 and, no, this is not a joke. Rather, as Lisa van der Pool reports in the Boston Business Journal, it is the brainchild of Howie Altholtz, an attorney and marketing director at Ruberto, Israel & Weiner in Boston. A portion of the profits will benefit Greater Boston Legal Services and participating lawyers’ designated charities. Also pitching in is Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, which is helping to promote the project.

The Beautiful Lawyers Web site says that candidates are still being sought to pose for one of the 12 slots. According to the site, nominees should be lawyers “who would appreciate the spirit of this unique project and be willing to donate the beauty of who they are — inside and out — for a good cause.” The identities of the legal pinups will be kept secret until November, van der Pool writes, but Altholtz tells her that one has already been selected from Ropes & Gray and another from Fish & Richardson.
