I was in New York on that horrible 9/11. Four years ago, I posted my own remembrance of the day. The images of the day remain clear in my memory — the burning towers, the grey-white ash, the panicked crowds early in the day and then the eerily deserted city later. I also will never forget the days that followed, with every available wall in Manhattan plastered with pleas from desperate family members for information about their loved ones. My heart goes out to everyone who lost someone that day.

I hope we never forget that it was hate and intolerance that drove the terrorists to commit those unthinkable acts. I was proud of our president’s words yesterday, when he said about religious freedom and tolerance in this country, “We don’t differentiate between ‘them’ and ‘us.’ It’s just ‘us.'”
