Daily Case and News Reports from Wolters Kluwer

Last month, Wolters Kluwer Law & Business launched the Wolters Kluwer Daily Reporting Suite, which it described as “a daily reporting service created by attorneys, for attorneys.” The suite provides daily reports summarizing court decisions, legislative and regulatory developments, and industry news. ┬áDaily reports are offered for five practice areas: antitrust, employment, health, intellectual property and securities. Additional practice areas are slated to be added during this year.

The Employment Law Daily as seen on the iPad app.

Subscribers to the service can receive the updates by email, via RSS feeds, or through mobile apps for iPad, iPhone, Blackberry and Android.

The service offers a free trial, which I subscribed to and have been receiving for several weeks. The service delivers what it promises. Each daily update appears to be timely and comprehensive for its subject area. The updates arrive in the early evening, between 6 and 9 p.m. Eastern time. Cases are reported promptly. Reports of appellate cases appear in the same day’s alert. Lower court cases seem generally to be reported within a couple of days, if not immediately. News stories are, as you’d expect, same day.

Notably, the case reports are well-written and informative, with attorneys writing all the reports. While still brief enough to scan quickly, they provide more than the one-paragraph summary sometimes seen in these types of reports. As you would expect, case reports link to the case’s full text.

My trial subscription did not allow me access to some of the service’s advanced features or to the mobile apps. Advanced features include the ability to customize content by topic area and jurisdiction in order to prioritize the content that is most relevant to your practice and a searchable archive on Wolters Kluwer’s IntelliConnect service.

So how much does this service cost? You will not find that information anywhere on the Wolters Kluwer website. I put the question to Amy Wolfcale, executive director, communications, at Wolters Kluwer Law & Business. Here is what she said:

I’ve just checked with our product team and I’m told that it’s not possible to provide a specific response to a general pricing question because too many variables determine a specific price quote.

Pricing packages vary. So many factors are included in the calculation of a specific price quote for the Daily Reporting Suite that we can’t provide an accurate quote in isolation. Customer feedback thus far indicates that our pricing is considered very competitive in the marketplace.

Frankly, that was the answer I expected. But it doesn’t hurt to ask.

The bottom line, then, is that the service appears to be comprehensive and informative in its reporting and versatile in its delivery. You’ll have to talk to a salesperson about pricing and then evaluate for yourself whether the cost is balanced with the benefit.
