As someone who has spent his career at the intersection of law and journalism, I have always been a student of media law. My interest in the field stepped up a notch this summer, when I became executive director of the Massachusetts Newspaper Publishers Association. As such, my primary role is to be a legal watchdog, monitoring the courts and the state legislature for developments related to journalism and the newspaper industry. I have started a new blog, Media Law, to serve as my notebook. Here I will track news relating to the First Amendment, access to public records, open meetings laws, journalist shield laws, libel and other such issues, with an emphasis on Massachusetts. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts.
