At yesterday’s seminar, I learned from Kathie J. Sullivan, a law librarian and principal of Sullivan Information Management Services in Burlington, Vt., about two sites that are useful in several ways, but in particular for allowing searching of employer tax identification numbers, or EINs:
- GuideStar. I confess to having never seen this site, a database of information about nonprofit organizations. Basic access is free, although registration is required, and includes access to an organization’s three most recent Form 990s, the annual IRS filing required of tax-exempt organizations with annual receipts greater than $25,000. From the 990s, you can obtain an organization’s EIN.
- freeErisa.com. This site provides free and premium access to databases of pension and benefit data. It is a useful site in many ways, but I had never noticed until I heard Kathie point this out yesterday that it specifically provides for searching of EINs.
