The American Bar Association said today it will relocate its February 2006 midyear meeting from New Orleans to Chicago. The notice from ABA President Michael S. Greco said:
“The decision was made difficult because of our strong desire to help the economy of New Orleans at this time. We made every effort to remain in New Orleans for the Midyear Meeting, and have been in constant communication with the New Orleans hospitality community. We were informed by the New Orleans Convention Bureau that all citywide meetings scheduled in the city through March 31, 2006, have been cancelled, and the City’s hotels have therefore released the ABA from our contracts. It is just not possible to hold our meeting in New Orleans.”
Meanwhile, I learned via Joe Hodnicki’s Law Librarian Blog that the American Association of Law Schools announced yesterday that it will relocate its annual meeting, scheduled for January, from New Orleans to a location yet to be determined.
