I told you early in March that Maine’s Pine Tree Legal Assistance had sued LegalMatch alleging deceptive Web advertising practices. Today, the two parties announced that they had settled the dispute. An announcement described the settlement as amicable and said that no money would change hands.

The suit alleged that LegalMatch advertisements appeared when a user typed “Pine Tree Legal Assistance” into various Web search engines. Today’s announcement said that LegalMatch is now working with the major search engines to exclude non-profits from its search-engine marketing. “We have the greatest respect for non-profit agencies that service people’s legal needs,” said Don Keane, LegalMatch vice president of marketing.
