Thanks to Joe Hodnicki at Law Librarian Blog for the pointer to EContent’s latest list of the 100 companies that matter most in the digital content industry. The list includes a fair number of companies that provide content to the legal community, including Bloomberg, BNA, Reed Elsevier, Thomson Reuters and Wolters Kluwer.

That these publishing behemoths are there is not all that notable. What is noteworthy, as Joe points out, is that the somewhat smaller legal research company Fastcase made the list. EContent gives no explanation for the individual company choices, but Fastcase was selected in the category “fee-based info services.”

Some other companies on the list that are familiar to legal professionals include Adobe Systems, Copyright Clearance Center, iCopyright, John Wiley & Sons, MarkLogic and ZyLAB. Of all of them, Fastcase is the only one on the list that is devoted exclusively to legal research.
