The law practice management system Credenza is shutting down, according to a notice on its website. “Credenza has reached end-of-life,” says the notice. “Effective 60 days after your August 2016 renewal date, Credenza will no longer be offered or supported.”

Credenza was an add-in for Microsoft Outlook that provided the ability to organize client files, phone calls, time and billing and other information directly within Outlook, along with emails, calendar entries, tasks and notes. The basic version was free while a pro version was $24.95 per month.

Credenza is owned by Toronto-based Gavel & Gown Software, which also owned the practice management platform Amicus Attorney. Last May, Gavel & Gown sold Amicus Attorney to Abacus Data Systems, which has its own practice management platform, AbacusLaw.
Abacus is offering Credenza customers assistance to migrate to Amicus Attorney.

    I liked the free version of Credenza and used it for several years for e-mail/matter/document management. It did what I needed, and did it pretty well. I use Timeslips for time and billing, so the pro features of Credenza didn’t matter to me. Unfortunately, it simply stopped working a couple of years ago with Outlook 2010. Sorry to see it go, and I would never consider the much more expensive, worse, Amicus Attorney alternative.

      Excuse me if my following post is duplicative of one I TRIED to send earlier — Is anyone using Credenza with Outlook 2013 or 2016? Yes, I know Credenza (online) is history. The free, on-site, “Basic” version still works – at least on my system with OL 2010. I also will not consider Am. Aty. or most other alts.
